SYS.UPDATE 02.00

Here we are, a new update to start off the new month.

Unfortunately, as some of you may have noticed, things did not go according to plan. The last few months have been mired with work and medical issues, and, thusly, I was unable to keep the schedule I set in the previous post for my releases. For that I apologize, because I know a lot of you have been waiting for the next big update of Super Brawl Showdown! That’s why most of you are here, I’m sure.

Well, don’t worry, your ache for news will be filled very shortly. First, I’d like to talk about some of the other projects…

LantixPro Retrobits Release Date Change

I originally planned to get the Retrobits collection out pretty quickly, but obviously there were some snags leaving me unable to do the finishing touches. However, now that things are clearing up, I want to announce the new release date for the collection. Again, it will still be free, and serves as an interesting look into some of my older works with LantixPro Studios; with additional commentary.

I hope you choose to check it out. This is a collection of games that are unfinished, unrealized. They are playable, sure, but what matters is the emotion behind them– and these works are very close to my heart.

A Showdown looms in the distance…

Time for the important stuff! Super Brawl Showdown has been experiencing quite a large development slowdown since the beginning of the year. It’s been tough to make progress on the game in the current environment, especially since we have such a small team. A big part of what’s been holding me back from dropping all of the latest updates is presentation. Previous updates have resulted with some bugginess and jank that I want to eliminate.

Thankfully, as the year goes on, things are starting to clear up, and development continues. We’re approaching a version of the game that feels much smoother to play, and more fleshed out in terms of content. Some of the obvious changes will be an expansion of the movesets of older fighters, and a whole slew of stages, old and new.

One of the biggest things I am focusing on is the Campaigns and related Bosses. The original campaign has been expanded on and has a new unique character that can be played through in this storyline only. There will be more news on this in the future. In addition, each character in the second upcoming campaign will have their own unique storyline. Both of these will be available in the update, as well as a third upcoming campaign.

Additionally, all Beta Testers will soon be given access to builds of the game that have online multiplayer functionality. We are still in the early development phase, but are very excited to get closer to presenting this feature to the public. I know that it is one of the most highly-anticipated features for the game. I don’t expect it to be implemented in the next public release, but the one after that? Well… I’d like to think so.

Given that there appears to be a history in-regards to SBSD where I give a release date and then it doesn’t come true… I’ve provided a more general answer with a lot more time to get some of these features taken care of and fully incorporated. I apologize for such a long wait, but I think it’ll be worth it.

Journey into The Cascades

Oh boy. I made a mistake. For a long while I’ve had all sorts of ideas as to how to put together a Fallout game. The world is fun and interesting to play with, and over the years I’ve had my share of attempts at a storyline. Somewhere along the way, I actually decided to make a quick and easy demo to showcase some of my ideas and have a tangible piece of art to show for all of my thoughts and planning, right? I forgot to account for my ridiculous ambition. This is a real game now.

Fallout Cascades takes place in the American Northwest, 13 years following the events of Fallout: New Vegas. With the fall of the greater powers in the last decade, the Followers of the Apocalypse gather in the Cascades to debut the Intranet— an old-world technology they hope will unite new world in a new way.

I don’t want to get too much into the details at this time, but there is a wide world for the player to explore; and I am excited to introduce you all to it. The game is designed and written to hopefully serve as a faithful sequel more in the spirit of the original two games. A lot of love and care is going into it, and I hope you all take a peek at what the game has to offer.

Snowball fights in July?

Some of you may already be aware, but I have been slowly developing an additional fan-project known as Snow Brawl Meltdown. It is to serve as the next installment in the classic Snow Brawl series of games.

It’s not as high priority as some of my other projects, which is why news has been quiet on this end. I actually began development last winter… between that and the delayed Christmas event in SBSD, I hope this doesn’t become a trend!

As you can see, there has already been a change in gameplay, and an additional character added. I have some unique ideas on how I’d like to improve on the previous games. Either way, I’ll keep you guys updated.

Planet Protector finally comes out??

It’s been a really, really long time.

This game was originally released with LantixPro Studios a while back, but I pulled it once I began working on an expanded version of the game. Since then, I’ve been adding bits and pieces to the original concept. What’s emerged is a much fuller experience than the simple concept of the original game.

I’ve been sitting on it for a while at this point, and I think the game is finally ready to return to the fray.

I’m excited to show off how the story has grown since the days of the original demo, and I hope you guys enjoy everything that’s been added. At its core, its still an old web game of yesteryear; but as you peel back the different layers, you will find there is much more to explore. Thanks for sticking with me all this time.

New Communication Channels

Now that this website is getting some new changes and more usage, it’s about time I linked back to the new YouTube channel, as well as the Discord server. You can use this website, or either of those two to stay up to date with everything going on regarding the development of these works.

I planned to make this look very fancy and nice, but if you can’t tell– I am very tired. I hope you guys have a good day, and until next time.

SYS.UPDATE 01.00

I guess this will be the first official post on the website. It just makes sense, really. I haven’t made any updates on the status of my projects for a while. I’ve been busy these days. Though, I’ve been getting more time to put together some nice new releases. As you may have read previously, this is the beginning of a new era, a new start for GRRLWARE.

Other projects, such as Halcyon Days and Planet Protector, will have their own separate update log later on. Stay tuned for more information.

A New Retrobits Compilation

Back on the original LantixPro website, we released a series called LantixPro Retrobits. It was two packages of two games released on July 18th and August 24th, 2018. This was a series of older games that I put together to pad out the release schedule between what we hoped would be some of the bigger releases. The whole thing was called the Wave 2 Project and I thought it would be a huge hit.

It wasn’t! But that’s okay.

In the end, I’ve found they have served as a nice archive of some of my much earlier works with LantixPro Studios. God, not even including some of the stuff made using online services like Sploder (which is now dead) or Atmosphir (which I thought was lost media until I searched it up right now… it’s been a trip, you guys), I have made a LOT of stuff in my time as a game developer. The four featured in this set are the only surviving works that actually ended up being pretty alright in terms of how far they got into development. I also admire them for their ambition! The aim was high and by god did little me try. Good for her.

There at one point existed a more fully-fleshed out build of Bevar in the Wild before it had to be remade… I wish I could have used that one. I spent so much time on it! Unfortunately, in my pre-teen rage, I deleted it. Truly tragic, if you think about it.

I’ve decided to re-release the Retrobits series as an official compilation of LantixPro Studios’s early works. The package includes Bevar in the Wild, Infinite, Infinite Dungeon, and Sage’s Dungeon; the original four featured games. Additionally, a new entry, Robotic Harbingers of Doom, will be added to the collection with mod support; as well as a new introduction program to accompany the set.

I hope you enjoy these old flames of mine.

Super Brawl Showdown! Anniverary Update

For all of you Super Brawl fans, I bet you’ve been itching to hear more about what’s been going on behind the scenes. Originally, there was supposed be an Anniversary Update for the game back in December of 2023. This was to commemorate one year after the release of SBSD’s Open Beta! A big milestone! The original plan was to release an Anniversary Update with lots of visual changes, featuring a new Holiday Event, with a couple of special new stages, and a mysterious new addition…

Unfortunately, personal issues obstructed development of the game for quite some time. I apologize to everyone left waiting, as the most frequently updated place was the Discord server; whom received a more detailed coverage of development compared to those scattered around different websites. It is actually one of the reasons I built this website– to have a central source for all further news such as this.

The trailer for the upcoming update will air March 1st on the new GRRLWARE YouTube channel; the details of which will be announced soon. This new trailer will give you all a good look at what’s been worked on in the last few months; as well as the content you can expect to see in the Anniversary Update.

The Anniversary Update will feature Nitro’s First Birthday, a Holiday Event wherein four of Lord Nitro’s most loyal followers must track down those who dare not attend his birthday celebration. This along with new stages, visual changes, veteran development, and a strange new character forecasts a wild ride for the cast of Super Brawl Showdown!

Stay tuned here to learn more about the release of the trailer, the new Youtube channel, and maybe even a few sneak peeks. You never know! You might miss something interesting.

SuperRPG Finally Sees the Light of Day

SuperRPG was an incredibly ambitious project that I attempted at one point. The idea was that a mysterious Storyteller is forced to weave tales and create worlds for you to explore. Each time the player boots up the game, their relationship with the Storyteller increases and the game evolves accordingly; with more detail and color emerging over time. In the end you would have to battle the Storyteller throughout the menus and reset the game.

Although I didn’t get too close to making my idea a reality, SuperRPG is definitely a fun piece to check out and mess around with for a bit. There’s a lot of things your character can do, and the world is populated with a good deal of stuff to interact with. It just takes a little intuition and exploration.

After all, isn’t that the spirit of the game?

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. It means a lot. Putting this update together was hard, specially after a long time away curating the old LantixPro website. I felt devastated when it was lost. But now, things are different. It feels great to be writing again. I hope you can feel it.

Until next time, stay safe.
